Named after the son of the German economist Silvio Gessell , Carlos Idaho Gesell, this is a great attraction for all those who come to this part of this world. Carlos wanted to plant pines somewhere near the zones of Mar Del plata so that he could reduce costs. Gesell checked the ground for the presence of groundwater and he tried to forest the entire region so that he could reduce the coastline which was around 10 km long. He created the forest and then built a house here. Today this house stands in the form of a municipal museum.
The forestation that he started didn’t get completed the way he wanted it to so Carlos decided to plant some weeds here so that they could anchor the sand in place. Then he got many trees planted so that the roots wouldn’t loosen the sand.
In this way Carlos Gessell began to live here permanently since the year 1937. Then in the year 1940 he built a small timeshare called the “La Golondrina.” People started visting this place and slowly the whole region turned into a nice well developed urban zone. The place grew into a great city and today has the best resorts. Thus Villa Gessel started to become a hot property for tourists who come here since then. The Gessel Rock is a rock festival that was held here but today it doesn’t exist instead we have musical shows for the family.
